Portland - Today, Bruce Poliquin, candidate for Maine Governor, won the first major televised gubernatorial debate by differentiating himself as the only candidate with the right comprehensive private-sector experience and financial skills to bring competent management to state government. Poliquin effectively made his case by citing his experience as both a company executive at a sizeable asset management firm and as an entrepreneur creating hundreds of jobs in Maine and investing millions of dollars into the state economy.
"Maine's next Governor must be from the private sector...We can no longer afford political business as usual in Augusta," Poliquin said. "My entire professional life I have been starting, managing, and running companies and creating jobs...I know how tough it is to do business in Maine. We need someone with that kind of experience in the Blaine House."
For more than a decade, Poliquin managed a sizeable asset management firm that oversaw the safe investment of more than $5 billion – more money than Maine state government spends in a year. He is also currently an entrepreneur, managing the day-to-day operations of companies he's started in Maine, signing pay checks, hiring workers, dealing directly with state agencies, negotiating with vendors, and wisely using resources.
While others in the race may have some business background, none could match Poliquin's comprehensive and successful experience in finance, business management, entrepreneurship, and leading companies.
"This is a Republican primary. We're all going to be philosophically aligned on most of the issues – lowering taxes, reducing energy and health care costs, increasing job growth," Poliquin said after the debate. "The real question before voters is who has the management skills and successful experience in finance to actually solve Maine's economic, fiscal, and job-related problems. Our next Governor will have little room for error and must get it right the first time."
The debate was held at the Portland Expo Center and hosted by WGME-TV and Maine Today Media.

Palin's Going Rogue Book Tour Ends in Alaska with the Troops & the Public
As the Going Rogue book tour ends, I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support. At every stop along the way my family and I were treated like members of your family and I can’t tell you how honored and thrilled I was by the opportunity to meet so many of my fellow Americans!
I've attached a link to some of our favorite photos from the tour. They reflect the warm feelings and energy that made each of the book signing events so incredibly moving.
After all our travels, it's even more obvious to me that the winds of change are blowing strong. At every stop people talked about the need to take our country back. So let's do it! 2010 is just around the corner and with it will come one of the most critical elections of our lifetime. With important House and Senate races across our nation and dozens of gubernatorial races we have the chance to make a positive difference throughout our country.
I am going to help campaign across our great nation and I'd like your help to do it. If you are able to contribute I will use the SarahPAC donations you place in my trust to support candidates who share our core values, and I’ll work on issues that can put America back on the right path. With your help, we can bring real change to America!
From my family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year.
God Bless the USA!

Dean Scontras Congressional Exploratory Committee

Dear Friends and Supporters,
It's been nearly a year and a half since my campaign for Maine's 1st District Congressional seat. Serving as a candidate was an incredibly rewarding experience for my family and me and I remain grateful for the warmth and support you showed me throughout our journey together.
Our campaign touched many people and was unique in many ways. We provided a platform and a voice for people who feel that politics has become an arena for career politicians who shape their views based on the prevailing political polls. We built an small army of Maine citizens who care deeply about the critical issues facing our nation; people who are not afraid to boldly and proudly take a stand. Together we succeeded in ushering in a revival of conservative grassroots activism as evidenced by the hundreds of first-time volunteers that made phone calls, posted signs on their lawns, participated in our events and donated their hard-earned money.
State Convention 2008As my friends and supporters, I come to you now for advice during a critical time in our state and nation's history. During the past few weeks, a number of prominent local and national Republican leaders have approached me about the possibility of becoming a candidate for Maine's 1st Congressional District seat in 2010. Energized by the recent stunning Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia and bracing for a "red wave" in 2010, Republicans are looking for principled conservative candidates to step up and run in competitive districts all across the country.
My wife Dawn and I had a long talk the other night about the world our two children, Jack and Zoe, will inherit. Under a new President, our country is rapidly moving on a path towards socialism. A government takeover of out healthcare is on the horizon; a broken job market is leaving a number of talented, hardworking people wondering how they will make ends meet; and our congressional leaders seem content to be complicit in the collapse of the economy. For the sake of our family and the millions of families concerned about the future of our country, conservative Americans cannot sit by and allow our future to disappear without a fight. We pledged that our family would make the sacrifices necessary to LEAD that fight.
Judy Shelton, author and economist, once observed, "money is a moral contract between government and its citizens." Years of reckless spending by Republicans and Democrats alike has devalued and deflated more than just the dollar. Our government is headed toward insolvency and our elected officials continue to default on their moral obligation to reduce spending and stop borrowing. To the contrary, they are spending and borrowing at a greater pace than ever before.
The dollar should reflect the productivity and ingenuity of this great nation. Instead, the dollar has come to reflect government excess, unfunded liabilities, and the legacy of entitlements that politicians have promised in order to triumph in elections. The bill for generations of politician's promises has come due on our watch, and borrowing from China is approaching critical mass. We must forge one last fight, or this era of fiscal irresponsibility will consume us. This great moral conflict will be played out next election cycle, and I would like to be on the team that fights the good fight - your team.
Dean and JackIn the coming weeks, Dawn and I have an important decision to make regarding a potential run for Congress. I am asking for your strong support once again, this time to assist me with the exploratory process. I need to determine whether a Scontras candidacy can garner the early financial support necessary to compete against a career politician like Chellie Pingree, with her access to unlimited funds and muscle in this new era of Chicago-style politics in Washington, DC.
I have assembled the Scontras Congressional Exploratory Committee to begin collecting pledges of financial support to measure the strength of a potential Scontras 2010 congressional campaign. Your early support is crucial if my campaign is to become a reality in 2010.
Please reply directly to this e-mail (dean.scontras@gmail.com) and consider making an initial pledge of as little as $10 and as much as $2,400 per individual if you are interested in joining me once again in a fight for the future of Maine and America. I would appreciate any financial support you can give.
Sincerely,
Dean Scontras

A Statement from the Christian Civic League of Maine
The Christian Civic League of Maine issues this statement on the success of the same- sex marriage law People’s Veto:
The Christian Civic League of Maine welcomes the news of the win on Question 1. Shortly before the election, the League predicted that homosexual marriage would eventually be decisively and finally defeated. The League saw that the common sense of the people of Maine, combined with the Biblical truth about homosexuality would win out over any cynical manipulation of the political process.
The homosexual marriage forces were defeated despite the enormous advantage in spending and the support of a compliant media they enjoyed. Nor did a last minute appeal by Maine’s Governor and Attorney General succeed in swaying voters.
There will be much post-election analysis of why the vote went in favor of traditional marriage. The homosexual marriage supporting No on 1 side will say their defeat was a result of bigotry and discrimination. The Yes on 1 side will say their victory was the result of a skillful campaign. The unstated and very obvious truth is that the greatest disadvantage of the No on 1 side was the appalling absurdity of homosexual ‘marriage.’ There is simply no effective way of marketing such an obviously bad product to the people of Maine.
Supporters of traditional marriage are now feeling a mixture of joy and relief, the kind of elation one feels after a narrow escape from disaster. For the League and her supporters, this is a welcome feeling after years of hard work and sacrifice.
But we remind the people of Maine that our society is not out of danger yet. One factor in this election victory is the glaring double-standard employed by the homosexual marriage side. Even as radical homosexual rights activists appealed to the public for tolerance, they were working to deprive Donald Mendel, a local guidance counselor and traditional marriage supporter, of his right to earn a living. Despite the victory on Question 1, this intimidation is sure to intensify.
Victory over the radical homosexual lobby and its agenda does not consist in a temporary rejection of the concept of homosexual marriage. It means faithfulness to God's laws pertaining to marriage and the family, and a return to Biblical truth about homosexuality. Victory will only be realized when the public returns to an awareness that homosexuality is a sin.
The Christian Civic League of Maine pledges to continue to work towards this goal, and to remain faithful to its century-long mission of being a moral force in Maine.

Why Marriage Matters
According to the Stand for Marriage Maine website: Traditional marriage is the foundation of society and has served our state well since its founding. Maine’s current marriage laws exist to strengthen society, encourage monogamous and loving marriages and provide an environment to nurture the well-being of children. Marriage matters, and so does your vote. Thirty other states have voted on this issue and every single state has decided against legalizing same-sex marriage and instead upheld traditional marriage.
Maine’s long-standing statute defines marriage as being the union of one man and one woman joined in traditional monogamous marriage. Our law declares marriage to be an institution of inestimable value to society. Current law says that Maine has a compelling interest to nurture and promote the unique institution of traditional monogamous marriage in the support of harmonious families and the physical and mental health of children, and establishes that the State has a compelling interest in promoting the moral values inherent in traditional monogamous marriage.
All of this – the very basis for Maine having marriage laws at all – was thrown by the wayside by the legislature and governor when they passed LD 1020 – the same sex marriage law that will take effect unless Question 1 is approved this November.
Voting Yes on Question 1 stops this ill-conceived legislation before it takes effect, prevents homosexual marriage, preserves traditional marriage, and reaffirms the important role marriage plays in our society.
Marriage Matters…Vote Yes on Question 1.

Republican Senator and Federal EPA Employee Fight Suppression of a Global Temperature Change Report Indicating Global Cooling
A top Republican senator has ordered an investigation into the Environmental Protection Agency's alleged suppression of a report that questioned the science behind global warming.
The 98-page report, co-authored by EPA analyst Alan Carlin, pushed back on the prospect of regulating gases like carbon dioxide as a way to reduce global warming. Carlin's report argued that the information the EPA was using was out of date, and that even as atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have increased, global temperatures have declined.
"He came out with the truth. They don't want the truth at the EPA," Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla, a global warming skeptic, told FOX News, saying he's ordered an investigation. "We're going to expose it."

Court Rules for White Firefighters in Discrimination Case
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a group of white firefighters in Connecticut were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision endorsed by high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
The 5-4 ruling poses a potential complication to Sotomayor's nomination, with confirmation hearings set to start in July. Already, supporters and critics of Sotomayor are seizing on the decision in an effort to defend their stance.

Teacher Fired for Conservative Website (www.onenewsnow.com)
Tim Latham has been teaching history and U.S. Government for over 19 years. But after teaching for just one year in the Lawrence School District in Lawrence, Kansas, Latham says his contract was not renewed because school officials did not like his conservative views -- particularly a teacher website that Latham hosted and paid for himself. A teacher coach confronted him on that issue.
