Union Bosses "Working to Resurrect" Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining Bill in Lame Duck
Remember Rumford Fire Chief John Woulfe took a job in DC with the IAFF.
International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) union chiefs have unveiled their scheme to continue pushing the Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining Bill (S. 3991), just days after a U.S. Senate vote rejected Harry Reid's attempt to cut off debate.
In a press release, IAFF political operatives revealed they are "working to resurrect" S. 3991 before the end of the "lame duck" session.
Harry Reid, desperate to pay back his union-boss benefactors, could prolong the session to do their bidding before newly elected pro-Right to Work Senators and Congressmen take office next month.
Senate Republicans objected to the Senate Majority Leader prioritizing special interest giveaways over expiring tax cuts and funding the federal government, but Big Labor is turning up the heat on a few weak-kneed Republicans to support S. 3991 if it comes up for another vote.
Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Mike Johanns of Nebraska, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine did not vote with Reid to shut off debate despite supporting previous versions of the bill, and Chuck Grassley of Iowa has never firmly come out for or against the union-boss power grab.
A recent editorial by the normally pro-forced unionism Washington Post challenges their wisdom, warning that S. 3991 "would trample long-standing state autonomy in public-sector labor relations, to no obvious national purpose."
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram went a step further: "The Senate would do taxpayers a big favor by killing this bill." Read these editorials at the Freedom @ Work blog.
By chipping in with a contribution of $10 or more today, you will help the National Right to Work Committee remain on high alert through the next week or however long Harry Reid extends the 111th Congress.

The Second American Revolution
Submitted by Ron Theriault (Rumford, Maine)On April 19th 1775, in the Colony of Massachusetts, common Americans took up arms and started the First American Revolution to gain their freedom from a repressive Government with the shot that was heard around the world. Today, January 19th, 2010, the common folks of Massachusetts have fired the first shot of the Second American Revolution that now aims to shake off our own repressive Government and it too will be heard around the world. Americans do not submit to oppressive Governments either foriegn or domestic.
In a state where all major offices are held by Democrats, Massachusetts voters have sent a strong message to Washington by electing Republican Scott Brown by over 100,000 votes. Despite what the pundits have to say, this race was indeed a reflection of voter anger against President Obama as he continues to ignore the citizens of this country and continues his Socialist agenda. This election will add fuel to the Tea Party Express and other conservative groups as we head to the Mid-term elections of November.
It is at their own peril that candidates ignore the anger of the common voters and the dedication of the grass roots efforts to turn our country back to position of social conservatism, fiscal responsibility and Judeo-Christian social values. We are not the country that will stand by while Federal Laws disadvantage our elderly at the later stages of their lives. We will not blindly follow the insensitivity of killing our yet to be born citizens all in the name of Socialism. We will respect the men and women of our military and their proud history of securing freedom not only for ourselves, but for the world. No more apologizing for being the rescuer of the world, no more apologizing for being the best country in the world. We can now start the course to bring this country back to a fiscally strong, morally correct beacon of hope for everyone around the globe.
God Bless America

Don't Get Scammed When Returning Items
To Whom It May Concern:
I wish to inform people of my recent Christmas tree buying experience. For the first time in twenty years, we decided to go with an artificial tree. We bought one from Mardens for seventy-three dollars ($73.00) that came with eight hundred (800) colored lights and revolved three hundred and sixty degrees (360⁰ ) continually! It was a beautiful tree, but after a week or so, it stopped revolving. At that point, I had the skirting down, presents everywhere, my free-standing Mr. and Mrs. Snowman, and my Santa Claus all set up, and the thought of breaking it all down to return the tree before Christmas was daunting to say the least.
When I did return the tree to the store on January 2nd (within the thirty (30) day stated requirement), the clerk said I could only get a 50% refund as it was a Christmas item and was being returned after Christmas. I was immediately irate, to say the least as I had my receipt and was in compliance with their stated policy of "returning the item within thirty (30) days for my hassle free refund".
I asked to speak with the manager. When the manager, Roberta Wallace, came to the front of the store, all she would do was keep repeating that I should have returned the tree when it stopped working! I explained to her what that would have entailed, and besides, I did not realize I was working under a time constraint as my receipt stated that as long as I returned the item within thirty days, with my receipt, I would get a "hassle free" full refund. When I asked Ms. Wallace to show me where on the receipt it states that "Christmas items will only be refunded at fifty percent (50%)", she stated that, "Well it doesn't say it on the receipt, it's just store policy".
When I said I wanted to speak to her supervisor because I was not willing to settle for a fifty percent (50%) refund, Ms. Wallace stated that "I'm it, I manage the entire store, there is no one else to go to." I replied with "Oh, so you own the store, make all business decisions, cut all payroll checks, etc.?" She said that no, she didn't own the store. I said then there is someone you report to, a district manager, the CEO, the owner, someone. I reiterated that I wanted to talk to her superior and was becoming quite upset at this point. This woman absolutely refused to honor Marden's contract and I told her what she was doing was a crime, that it was consumer fraud!
I referred to the terms of my receipt/contract which stated that upon returning an item to the store within 30 days, a full refund will be issued! When she realized I wasn't leaving until this issue was resolved, she said she would "make a call" but as this was Saturday, she couldn't do anything until Monday. I said "just to reiterate, you told me you were the store manager, yet you can't authorize a $35.00 customer refund?!"
I said fine, I gave her my name and number and told her I would be expecting her call Monday. Well, I went to the store Monday afternoon at which point Ms. Wallace told me she had a call into Walt Huffman, her manager, and was waiting for a return call. When I stated that it was getting quite late in the day she said "The day is not over yet." At that point, I showed her the following documents (please click on attachments) and she responded that she thought I was "a little over the top!" to which I replied if I didn't get my FULL refund that day, I was fully prepared to initiate a civil suit within the local court system, a criminal complaint with the attorney generals office, and a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, their consumer fraud division.
Miraculously, I received a telephone call within twenty (20) minutes saying my full refund was available to me anytime I wanted to come by the store!
Considering what I had to go through and the legal avenues I was prepared to pursue, I cannot help wondering how many people have been defrauded by this company. Not only how many were willing to just accept the fifty percent (50%) refund, but how many more did not know that they had avenues to pursue, and, furthermore, that they were the victims of consumer fraud?!

Did ACORN do Campaign Work for Obama in the Primaries?
The Relationship Between Barack Obama And ACORN
Did ACORN do campaign work for Obama in the primaries?
Obama for America contracted with Citizens' Services Inc., a national non-profit political consulting firm, for GOTV field services during the primaries. Citizens Services Inc. performs these same services under contract to a variety of candidates and ballot measure campaigns, labor unions and public interest organizations. CSI did sub-contract with some ACORN staff for a short period to help supervise door-to-door canvassing in this program, but this was a fairly small expenditure in the overall contract.

US Senator Richard Shelby Calls for Investigation of ACORN on 9/15/09
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), ranking Republican on the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, today wrote to committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Inspector General, Kenneth Donohue, calling for an immediate and thorough investigation into the activities of the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).Shelby’s call for an investigation follows recent news reports surrounding the arrest of individuals in Florida for falsifying voter applications while employed by ACORN leading up to the 2008 elections, as well as video of employees in multiple ACORN offices offering to falsify tax documents and to aid in obtaining a mortgage for individuals purported to be engaged in prostitution and employing underage illegal immigrants.
Shelby’s announcement also comes on the heels of overwhelming Senate approval of a measure prohibiting taxpayer funding for ACORN under the Treasury, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2010. The measure, which passed by staggering 83-7 margin, was supported by Banking Committee Chairman, Christopher Dodd.
“Last night’s vote served as a resounding rebuke on behalf of American taxpayers regarding the activities of ACORN,” said Shelby. “While this vote is important, it is limited in scope and we must know more. It is imperative that we proceed immediately to investigate what appears to be ACORN’s stunning disregard for the law and abuse of taxpayer funds. Such an investigation would serve as the basis for determining not only whether ACORN is worthy of receiving other federal funds this year, but ever again.”
The recent reports add to a litany of reported incidences over several years within the organization, which has for decades received federal funds, including millions under the jurisdiction of the Senate Banking Committee. ACORN is now eligible for additional taxpayer money under the economic stimulus legislation enacted earlier this year.

Senator Christopher J. Dodd
Chairman
U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs
534 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Chairman Dodd:
I write to you today to request that you launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the activities of the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Specifically, this committee needs to determine if ACORN is acting legally and ethically in the expenditure of taxpayer dollars and whether the organization should continue to be eligible to receive these funds.
In recent days, numerous news reports have surfaced surrounding: 1) the arrest of individuals in Florida for falsifying voter applications while employed by ACORN, leading up to the 2008 elections; and 2) video of employees in ACORN offices of Baltimore, Maryland, Washington, DC, and Brooklyn, New York, offering to falsify tax documents and to aid in obtaining a mortgage for individuals purporting to be engaged in prostitution and employing underage illegal immigrants.
These scandals add to numerous other reported incidences within the organization over many years including: embezzlement of nearly one million dollars by the brother of the organization’s founder; charges of additional voter registration fraud in other states; and the stripping of federal grants following findings that ACORN used federal money to promote legislation.
ACORN has been receiving federal money for decades including millions under the jurisdiction of the Senate Banking Committee and is eligible for additional money now as a result of the stimulus legislation enacted earlier this year. As such, it is vital that the committee undertake a prompt review of the activities of this organization.
I look forward to working with you to ensure the American taxpayer’s money is being spent wisely and legally.
Sincerely,
Senator Christopher J. Dodd

Reject the Sales Tax Expansion and Income Tax Modification (LD 1495)
If these changes stand,
Mainers will pay more to state government
-not less!
Fellow Maine Taxpayers-
Last week my wife came home and was "fit to be tied." She said "Did you know that we are going to lose our mortgage deduction?"
Along with doing away with our mortgage deduction, this new law does away with deductions for charitable contributions as well as places taxes on a whole bunch of other things - like movie tickets, meals, lodging, liquor, golf, etc.
You can read the entire list at www.stillfedupwithtaxes.net.
Anyway, upon discussing LD1495 (that's government-speak for this tax raising train wreck) we realized that this is not a tax cut, it's a tax "shift and shaft."
Subsequently, my wife and I are now signers and circulators of petitions to over ride LD1495 and I am asking you to do the same.
I spoke to Charlie Webster this morning. Each day he is working to get signatures and needs our help. Signatures need to be turned in by September 1st, so if you haven't signed please find a petition and sign it. If you are really motivated by this injustice, gather a bunch of petitions and become a circulator.
If you are interested in either signing a petition or becoming a circulator please contact Shawn Roderick at shawnroderick@hotmail.com or contact him at 207-860-6106.

Policy Holders of America
Dear Friend:
Remember when you were a kid and you and your friends hit a ball through your neighbor's window? If your parents were like mine, they dragged you over to your neighbor, made you apologize and for the next several months, you found yourself doing odd jobs to earn enough money to pay for the repairs. That's called taking responsibility.
While the average citizen must take responsibility for their actions, most insurance companies do not. I've never seen one of them admit they handled a claim improperly. Instead, they blame the homeowner, the builder or anyone else within ear's shot.
It is the insurance industry's refusal to take responsibility that has led to an increasing number of wrongful denials, delays and disputes about the scope of loss. Their behavior forces policyholders to fight for the coverage they were sold.
Policyholders of America or POA is a not-for-profit organization that empowers the policyholder. The organization was founded by policyholders who, probably like you, found themselves entangled in the web of insurance fraud, bad faith and unfair claims handling practices.
It's easy to fall into the victim category when a multi-billion dollar insurance company puts the screws to you. Don't. You will do nothing to move forward if you are too busy feeling victimized. That's where we come in
POA's mission is simple:
Guiding policyholders through the claims process;
Eradicating fraud and bad faith from the claim handling process;
Sponsoring medical research in specific target areas;
Demanding lower premium rates that better reflect actual coverage received;
Endorsing and supporting candidates who are champions of public interest; and
Exposing elected and appointed officials who have betrayed the public's interests
While we do provide tips and strategies to help with the claims process, we are not promoters of litigation. Depending on the situation, there are a number of other alternatives available to the policyholder that should be explored before resorting to legal remedies. However, once all other alternatives are explored, we stand ready to assist your legal team with database information that may prove invaluable to your case.
Certain information on this site is sensitive and can only be accessed with a password. Only members are allowed access to this information.
To become a member, you must fill out the membership application. Due to the review process, membership usually takes five to seven days to approve. There is a free category of membership that limits access to news.
We hope you join us and empower yourself.
Sincerely,
Melinda Ballard

However, once all other alternatives are explored, we stand ready to assist your legal team with database information that may prove invaluable to your case.
