Welcome to the official Rumford Reporter website owned and operated by Jennifer Norris of Rumford, Maine. Since we are stuck with the same ole, same ole from current newspapers, I have decided to create a site that clarifies the issues, gives you other perspectives, and markets Maine for the beauty and quality of life we all so treasure. If you are a public official in a public position, I will allow our readers to voice their opinion on your performance and character but if anyone attacks another fan or the admin, then your irrelevant attacks designed to hurt anothers character will be deleted. I ask that there be no name calling or character attacks. I don't like the trashy comment sections in the Lewiston Sun Journal. They let people say and do whatever they want despite the fact that the commenters are literally kicking people while they are down. Well that ain't happening here so let's have some great discussion and know that you will be protected and allowed the freedom of speech our Founding Fathers gave us without retaliation.

Wow! River Valley Voices is a hit! We are having so much fun on this new site. We are sharing pictures, music, videos, stories about Rumford, political views, and perspectives. And, we are doing it with respect for each other. River Valley Voices offers features that most other forums don't offer. Everyone has their own page that they can taylor anyway they want. Everyone has their own blog. Everyone has their own RSS feed. It is so exciting to see how people are interacting on the forum. It is so exciting to see what people are sharing every day. I literally can't wait to get on the site and see what is new.

The folks we have on the forum are great and I enjoy learning their perspectives. We are all sharing our perspectives without attacking one another for having that perspective. We are already up to 44 members which is great for a brand new forum that requires all identifying information to prevent any trolls from accessing the site. Once you get approved by the forum administrator, you can then become anonymous. Your personal information is only visible to the administrators and will never be shared with anyone. We give you our guarantee on that.

The Administrators of the Rumford Reporter Reader learned a lot from that experience and we have not only chosen a new forum for members only but we have increased security and made it a requirement that you provide us with all identifying information before you join. If you don't have anything to hide or you are not joining the forum to start trouble, then it is not a big deal. So, come and join us. We are having a lot of fun.

Small town America is slowly slipping away,at least that is what they say.I look left and see Hotel Harris standing tall,on the right is still the bank after all.As I breathe the cool Fall air,all is right and intact there.Down at the end of the street,the old Agway still looks trim and neat.
This is where I grew up, it's true,so it wouldn't mean as much to you.I am happy even if my glasses are rose.I don't see this town in death throes.It is a beautiful Autumn day,you sure can't take that away.
Hard working people from rough stockbuilt a town that can stand a shock.We have been down trodden beforeand Rumford can take a whole lot more,so when you roll down Congress Street,Think not of brick and concrete,but our town planners and builders.
Sometimes what is in the heart bewilders,because we love this little mill town.and we strive to keep it from being beat down.Small town America will never slip away,if we who love her have our say.

Editorial: Putting Government Back on the Side of the People

The Rumford Reporter is a newspaper dedicated to the community member's perspective. The Rumford Reporter was created as a mechanism to present the community's thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. The Rumford Reporter believes the government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people. The Rumford Reporter believes that in order for any town to be successful that government must operate on the side of the people.

The Town of Rumford has had a history of making decisions that don't make the community the number one priority. The Town of Rumford has had a history of "tax and spend" in an effort to benefit a few. In a time, when the valuation of the mill is declining, the infrastructure is failing, the unemployment rates are rising, and the cost of living is increasing, it is even more important now than ever to make decisions that ensure the success of our community members.

It is the hope of the Rumford Reporter that we will come together as a community to address all of the issues because we are all interconnected. The municipality is a key focal point in the community because the decisions they make and the way they spend money has a direct impact on all of us. They are an entity established to ensure our needs are met. We gave them the power to act on our behalf and attend to the public good. But, we need to get involved, understand how our government works, and make our voices heard if we want to ensure that we are being represented appropriately.

The Rumford Reporter is a tool that can be used as a form of checks and balances. Unfortunately, over time it has become painfully clear that our local newspapers to include both the Sun Journal and the Rumford Falls Times are slanted on the side of the municipality. The Sun Journal clearly treads on our town and those who are trying to do the right thing and does not provide an accurate depiction of who we are and what we stand for. I have attended many Selectmen's meetings and meetings in general that have not been clearly represented the next day in the newspapers. The Rumford Reporter has become an instrumental tool in our fight to represent the community and ensure accurate information is provided to our citizenry.

Rumford is definitely moving in the right direction. The voters have become empowered through the secret ballot process, thanks to Seth Carey and Mark Belanger. We no longer have the destiny of the town placed in the hands of a few where budgets are concerned. In the past, in an Annual Town Meeting format, it was easy for a budget to get passed that in effect raised our taxes because the town employees or those with a vested interest in a higher budget ensured that the meeting hall was full of those who would support those agendas.

The Rumford Reporter wants to help give our citizens a voice. We have stood by for years and watched our community decay. It is time that we unite to ensure that our tax dollars are used in an efficient, effective way. It is time that we ensure our tax dollars are used to invest in our community to include our infrastructure. It is time to ensure that the government is put back on the side of the people so that we can all be successful in the future.

One of my readers gave me some good information today that triggered me to inform you of a change on the Rumford Reporter. When I first started the website, there was an e-mail subscription account that accompanied the website, which actually belonged to the prior editor of the River Valley Reporter.

After my website was hacked, that e-mail subscription link was deleted and there was no way that I could retrieve it because the account was owned by the previous editor of the site. Therefore, I created my own e-mail subscription account.

I would recommend to those readers who signed up for updates via the e-mail subscription prior to July 20, 2008 that you unsubscribe from that and subscribe again via the e-mail subscription link on the Rumford Reporter. You will know if you are one of the people who needs to sign up for the Rumford Reporter e-mail subscriptions again if the "FROM" e-mail address says kevin@rumfordmaine.org. The top of the e-mail will look something like this:

Great News!!! After Years of Hard Work, the Diploma is in Hand

Master's Degree in Public Policy & Management

from the Muskie School of Public Service

I went to the post office in town today to pick up my mail. I got a yellow slip so I went to the window to claim my mail. As always, the post office employee on shift provided excellent customer service and presented me with my package. It must be noted that the post office staff here in Rumford are some of my favorite people in town because they are just so pleasant. Little do they know that the service that they provide to us is invaluable. We don't have to worry about people "hacking" into our post office boxes and we can count on them to deliver our mail, which is one of those things in life that often get overlooked and taken for granted.

Today, I received two pieces of mail that I wanted to share. I FINALLY got my Master's Degree Diploma! And, I got a notice from the Community College of the Air Force that I have also been awarded an Associate's Degree in Emergency Management. YEAH!!! But, I think the best news of all is learning that the University of Southern Maine granted me my Master's Degree the year that I was actually finished with classes, which was the Spring of 2005.

Unfortunately because I was so busy with my military career and the new love in my life, it was difficult for me to find the time to complete the thesis required for the degree in Public Policy and Management. For those of you who have ever done a thesis, it is not an easy feat. I had to take an incomplete in the course because the research required to complete the thesis was time consuming and difficult to accomplish when you are working full-time. But, I finally got it finished in 2007 and because I was so damn proud of myself for finally getting it done, I chose to attend the graduation ceremony in 2008.

I am so happy that I wanted to share this news with the world! As always if you have something significant that you would like to share with Rumford or the River Valley for that matter, please feel free to submit it and it won't cost you a dime. We would love to share all of your good news, too!

UPDATE: What Is Internet Stalking?

On June 21st, 2008, I started receiving hate e-mails from pachebo@aol.com. Since the conception of the Lisbon Reporter in early July, the editors of that site have also been receiving hate e-mails from pachebo@aol.com written to me as if I was the editor. The editors of the Lisbon Reporter have forwarded me all e-mails to add to my collection of evidence. Trust me, I would much rather not deal with this. I haven't received any mean comments since I suspended the anonymous commenting on my blog and I haven't received any mean e-mails except from this one person. I ignored them initially but now I am starting to get annoyed because they are just too personal for my comfort level. I paid close attention to motive and opportunity. I also paid close attention to the content. I am posting this information in an effort to get this to stop. I don't want any trouble. I just want to be left alone.

I did conduct a google search on "internet stalking" and here is the legal definition:

"Any repetitive or unwanted contacts, including e-mails, chat room postings, or blogging, may be considered internet stalking. I have represented numerous individuals in such cases. Normally a Cease & Desist Letter from an attorney brings it to a stop."

I just got off the phone with my lawyer (don't worry, it wasn't ALL about you, since he is also a friend and we have OTHER things to talk about), but he was laughing a lot about how you seem to have dug your own grave. Your deletions didn't quite go undetected. (Nor has anyone else yet seen your own expletive-laden emails to me .... see? i am a gentleman! I don't use the F word).

He's suggested a public apology from you both on your own site as well as on the RVFP. I told him that that was highly unlikely, but thought , to be fair, I would pass his suggestion on to you.. At this time, neither of us (me or my lawyer) are looking at monetary compensation. It's not worth it (at least to me). But you might want to think twice about playing so dirty (as my grandfather said, "if you play in s**t, , you're gonna get dirty").

As Harry Truman said ... " if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen".I would change that, though, since i do think you have a lot to offer , so my paraphrase would be " if you like the kitchen, be nice when you are there".

Internet Crime Complaint Center...An FBI-NW3C Partnership

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) was established as a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) to serve as a means to receive Internet related criminal complaints and to further research, develop, and refer the criminal complaints to federal, state, local, or international law enforcement and/or regulatory agencies for any investigation they deem to be appropriate. The IC3 was intended, and continues to emphasize, serving the broader law enforcement community to include federal, as well as state, local, and international agencies, which are combating Internet crime and, in many cases, participating in Cyber Crime Task Forces.

Since its inception, the IC3 has received complaints crossing the spectrum of cyber crime matters, to include online fraud in its many forms including Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) matters, Computer Intrusions (hacking), Economic Espionage (Theft of Trade Secrets), Online Extortion, International Money Laundering, Identity Theft, and a growing list of Internet facilitated crimes. Since June 2000, it has become increasingly evident that, regardless of the label placed on a cyber crime matter, the potential for it to overlap with another referred matter is substantial. Therefore, the IC3, formerly known as the Internet Fraud Complaint Center (Internet Fraud Complaint Center), was renamed in October 2003 to better reflect the broad character of such matters having an Internet, or cyber, nexus referred to the IC3, and to minimize the need for one to distinguish "Internet Fraud" from other potentially overlapping cyber crimes.

IC3 Mission Statement

IC3's mission is to serve as a vehicle to receive, develop, and refer criminal complaints regarding the rapidly expanding arena of cyber crime. The IC3 gives the victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism that alerts authorities of suspected criminal or civil violations. For law enforcement and regulatory agencies at the federal, state, local, and international level, IC3 provides a central referral mechanism for complaints involving Internet related crimes.

Significant and supplemental to partnering with law enforcement and regulatory agencies, it will remain a priority objective of the IC3 to establish effective alliances with industry. Such alliances will enable the IC3 to leverage both intelligence and subject matter expert resources, pivotal in identifying and in crafting an aggressive, proactive approach to combating cyber crime.

Like Gov Sarah Palin, Jennifer Norris' Personal E-mail Account and Blog was "Hacked" and They Bragged About it on a Local Website: The RFP

Editor's Note: They say that criminals for the most part are very dumb. The juvenile actions of these "hackers" proves just that. In the below post which is also evidence, they bragged about why and how they did it on their friend's website, the RFP. Everything they wrote in this post happened and I didn't have to write a statement because they did it for me. Little did they know that it is not just a Class D State Crime but a Federal Crime, which will probably strengthen now that Governor Palin's personal e-mail account has been "hacked" in the exact same way. This internet crime was reported to the FBI and the Department of Justice just moments after it was discovered. Now, who's laughing last?

On Sunday July 20th 2008, I was sitting on my couch reading with my feet up. Around 12:30 I had an epiphany. I have been thinking in recent months on how to gag the disturbing Rumford distorter. I’m ok with a computer, but I have a real problem with password and usernames. I like to change them frequently because of letters like this.

I knew Jennifer was using a hotmail.com email address oops.com. So, I jumped online and went to http://login.live.com/ and put in her address. Than I thought for a minute, I have an IP address that may record this. I stopped, got in my car and drove around to find a wireless hot spot, came to the conclusion there are a lot of open networks out there. After finding one that was most comfortable for parking and a strong signal. I tried again to log into her email account, I tried a couple of passwords and was unsuccessful, I clicked on the link password help, which gave me a couple options. I chose to state my area and answer the secrete question. The question was. “Who is your favorite historical person?” Hmmmmm, I knew immediately what that was, since this freak wraps her self in the Rumford flag, it had to be Hugh Chisholm, well I was wrong. It was just Chisholm. I freaked, slammed down my lap top and took of. This needed to be thought about, I’m a law abiding citizen with a good job and loving family. The last thing I needed was to be on the Sun Journal or worse the Rumford reporter. I went home and told my wife. She said” Your crazy! Go mow the lawn!” Ouch! Well I didn’t marry her, to have her, support my mischievousness behavior; I married her to stop that. Anyway, I called my buddy and asked if he could keep a secret, I was very paranoid and asked him if he was on a cordless or an actual land line. (Too much CSI). I told him that I could get into Jennifer’s email. I felt a big ass broad grin come across his face, as he immediately yells to his wife, “honey where in”!! I rolled my eyes and, in came his wife.

I said grab your laptop, lets go for a ride and discuss this information and make “a” some what responsible decision as is what to do. After she called my wife, we were off on a mission. Like school kids looking for beer!

Before we did any thing we did some research. After a quick and futile "whois” report. We had very little. We changed her email password and logged in. WOW. We were in, we changed the “secret question” and starting having fun. We where happy reading her emails, not that this is a huge surprise, but the people who they correspond with are, Mark Balenger, Frank Diconzo, Ron “chapter 11” Theriault, Len “interim” Grealy , Jason ”I’m to sexy for my shirt” Thompson, Tom Fallon, Mark Henry, and finally Kevin “I always have something to say” Siasi. None of this was a big surprise, but it was awe inspiring to see how they actual work. FWI. Kevin is not there favorite; we read a letter he wrote to them about the Lisbon reporter, Len and a phone call at Kevin’s house. He was scolding Jennifer in way we unfortunately have all been witnessed too. She forwarded it to Ron and Frank and called him an ass hole.

Now we wanted the site. We went to blogsbpot.com which hosts her site charterwatch.blogspot.com. We didn’t know the password so we had them send it to her hotmail account that we were viewing. Simple as shit we were in and had access to the rumford reporter. We laughed and looked over our shoulders in a now foggy automobile with four individuals who never thought they would be doing this. There was an excitement about doing what we new was wrong but needed to be done. This mission was now more fun. We thought what do we do? First we didn’t want to do anything to make it look like we where there, we deleted her submitters, and allowed people to post without being questioned. We found the “Delete Blog”. Hmmmmmm. Well if we do this that is that and where done, we voted. The ladies said no the men said yes. As in any marriage they won. Keep the peace! A decision was met to just post a statement.

THE RUMFORD REPORTER HAS BEEN HIGH JACKED!! SITE UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP! THERE WILL BE NO MORE LIES AND HATRED POSTED HERE!! FELL FREE TO POST OPENLY.

Also a quick shout out to Jennifer on her ignorance.

That was it for the site, we new they would be on to us. So we moved back to the email account. She had a promotional email from a web site” My Domain.com. in her inbox. Hmmmmm. We traveled there and they sent us the password. This account is where she registered the domain rumfordreporter.com and lets you make changes to where you want the name to point to. We changed it to iamaidiot.com for obvious reasons.

It was now about 3:30 and we knew we where pushing our luck and someone had to pee. We closed the lid on our laptops and went home to view the fallout.

I wanted to do more, I was told to stop! The site up with our post lasted about 40 minutes, they then regained access. She temporality closed the site except for accounts only. By 9 she had reposted like nothing ever happened. If you look closely you will se the changes. She no longer is using the Rumford reporter hotmail account. We still have access to that.

Well our damage was done and we tried to teach a lesson of responsibility to this destructive woman.

We hacked it! We could of and wish in hind site that we deleted the whole site. I guess the moral of this story is: Never take a woman to do a man’s job…LOL ….joking!!!

We where thinking this was Class A, but Kevin has stated it’s nothing more than a Class D. At least give us an E for effort??

Editor's Note: I had to cancel my credit card information that paid for the domain to the Rumford Reporter because the hacker's gained access to my e-mail account, my blog, and the domain website. But, their attempts to redirect my website to www.iamanidiot.com were futile because at the time I wasn't using www.rumfordreporter.com, I was using www.therumfordreporter.com. Thanks to them, I now own two URLs and both of them take you to my newspaper. There is a silver lining in every cloud.

People are fed up with the lies, slander and misleading accusations. A Freedom from oppressive and calculating-destructive individuals, which strangle-hold our town.

We “let“ her keep control of the site to teach a lesson in responsibility. If she is truly an educated person, that harpers the concept of community responsibility, shared an equal rights, that offer… not slander, but command ground on an infrastructure that needs to unify. If not! The site will be brought down! You may agree or disagree. This needed to be done!! The secrete is out…..and it’s not a secrete!

We’re convinced that she will be at the law enforcements door,there may not be a budget or leg to stand on. There was no crime committed. Just a lesson in personal responsibility! A copy of the email sent.

LTE: St John/St A. "Business Heads" (UPDATED)

Editor's Note: The Rumford Reporter received an update. Apparently, the first person that Mrs. Adley felt was the writer of the letter wasn't that person after all. Before she learned that this individual was not the writer of the letter, she had wrote mean, nasty things about them on her blog. Shortly after having her husband convince this person that she was not ADMIN (because she is "computer illiterate"), she retracted the statement and then began to accuse another person who she felt was the writer. It is the policy of the Rumford Reporter to protect our sources at all costs.

Now That We've Become One Parish...

Dear Editor,

I am a resident of Mexico. I've been reading the Rumford Reporter for a while now, and have enjoyed my morning coffee while reading.

I have felt a sense of relief since TRR has been available because I couldn't stand the Sun Journal any more. I feel I get the right information and all the facts from TRR. Thank you.

I was in such agreement with the letter that was posted about the St.A/St. John school and I felt compelled to write a letter to the editor.

I am shocked at the number of students attending the school. I thought there were many more children there. Why hasn't anyone been staightforward about this situation until now? Now that we have become one parish, this means that we are all financially responsible for that school's budget. That doesn't excite me.

Kudos to the person who had the guts to speak out and let the facts be known. I must say I feel the same way. I'm not sure what the school's budget is, but 50 kids from k-8 doesn't seem feasible to keep the place going.

Does anyone know what the budget is at St.A/St. John school?

I have been upset for some time now about the fact that the St.A/St.John school has remained open considering that the enrollment continues to drop drastically with every passing year. This year, I hear that there are somewhere around 50 kids from K-8. Now I'm going from being upset to being angry. As a parishioner, I am angry that my hard earned money is being used to subsidize this school's large budget. As a citizen, I am angry that my tax dollars are being used to subsidize this school's large budget.

It is disproportionate that we are spending our parish funds for approximately 50 kids when there are several hundred youth in the parish who should benefit from these resources as well.

What kind of business heads are on the St.A/St.John school board? Obviously, no one who knows anything about running a business, and obviously, selfish parents who have a sense of entitlement and think that their kids' tuition should come at everyone else's expense. Shame on you!

Shame on the teachers at the school for taking a paycheck that they are not really earning. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to do this math. Having 3-8 students per classroom is not what I would call "working for your money", nor is it socially healthy for the students.

Life's expenses are tough enough for individual families, especially for those of us who are on fixed incomes. So for the elitists who choose St.A/St.John school for their kids, I say pay for the whole thing yourselves.

If the parishioners and citizens were to be polled and "knew all the facts", your school would have to close.

The Rumford Reporter Reserves All Rights Under Copyright Law

In the infancy of our newspaper, we inadvertantly violated a copyright law which forced us to get up to speed quickly with the copyright laws. We published a newspaper picture with a link to their story. And, innocently thought that if we gave them the credit for the picture that we were in the clear. We were wrong and upon notification of the copyright violation, we removed the picture.

More recently, we had a situation where a couple of our stories were reprinted without our permission. We did not address both issues from a copyright stand point but we did ask that the stories be removed because they did not have permission to reprint the story.

We now would like to respectfully ask that if you wish to reprint one of our stories that you please ask our permission first. In most cases, we will comply but in some cases where the story may have been written by an individual in the community (not one of our staff writers), we would first like to get that person's permission before giving any other website the go ahead for reprint. If that person is not okay with the reprint then no one will be allowed to reprint the story on their website. Also, if that person wishes to have their story removed all together from the Rumford Reporter, we will also comply.

Please note that we have complied with all copyright laws since learning from our mistake. We only print and reprint stories with the express permission of the author except in the case of the Government who for the most part do not have copyright protection. When we refer to a newspaper or website article, we are by law (Fair Use Act) allowed to provide a few sentences contained in the article but must refer the reader to the newspaper or website link for the story in its entirety.
