Learn how to Navigate Under the Statehouse Dome - State Capitol
While the elections are over, there is still much work to be done. We must continue to keep the pressure on our elected officials and ensure they promote policies that defend freedom and economic liberty.
Last summer and fall, Americans for Prosperity-Maine (AFP) and MHPC partnered to train more than 600 grassroots activists across the state, teaching skills to execute grassroots campaigns and other tactics to build support for our shared principles. These workshops proved to be wildly successful, and we are excited to team up with AFP once again.
During our next workshop, "Navigating Under the Dome," we will focus on the tools available to help maximize our success in public policy debates. Participants will learn how to successfully influence and testify at a legislative hearing, where to obtain research and historical records relating to public policy, and how to maximize your time when engaging your elected officials.

Search State of Maine Welfare Charts
MOG | Search State of Maine Welfare Charts
Make sure and check on the amount of money that gets poured into Rumford to assist the low income individuals and families.
We know they are not getting ahead. We have the most people on fixed incomes in Oxford County. This includes welfare, Social Security (SSI), and SSDI.
If we are getting so much money to assist the needy in Rumford (@ 18,000,000 million), why then do we have an increase in the amount of people on some form of government assistance?
The State and the Maine Policy Heritage Center are crunching those numbers as we speak and finding that government assistance as it is set up now is in fact keeping people caught up in a dependency cycle. They don't necessarily want to be on the assistance but have no choice. For example, if a single mom works and puts a couple kids in daycare, it is almost not worth the cost of the daycare when you can stay home and take care of the children yourself and get health insurance benefits. If the rent and food are paid for then those same folks are are even more inclined to stay at home and make sure their children turn out right, are safe, and have a parent that is available. I don't think too many people would choose to be poor because it won't get you rich but when you stop to think about survival and the love of family, you can understand why the welfare programs are labeled as a dependency.
As far as the folks on SSI and SSDI, if you have a legitimate issue then these programs are excellent ways to help you pay your bills because you can't work or would have a difficult time working in a employment setting. SSI is for those folks who haven't made enough to qualify for SSDI. SSDI, Social Security Disability Income, is taken from your paycheck. And , you should get yearly statements telling you how much you would qualify for if you became disabled or retired. You paid into this program and the amount given is dependent upon how much you have worked. Hold onto those.

Scott Walker's Huge Victory! Obama's Unions Enraged, Planning More Attacks
Dear Newsmax Reader:
We’ve just won a huge victory in Wisconsin!
The GOP Senate simply outsmarted Obama’s bloated public unions.
In a historic vote last night, the Wisconsin Senate approved the most critical part of Governor Scott Walker’s budget repair bill.
By eliminating collective bargaining over benefits, Obama’s bloated public employee unions no longer have absolute power to hold taxpayers hostage.
No longer will Wisconsin’s liberal politicians award lavish pension and health benefit packages to their union cronies in exchange for a mother-load of campaign cash and votes.
What happened?
The Wisconsin Senate requires a quorum to vote on any bill that spends money. This is how the 14 AWOL senators shamefully managed to block a vote on Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill.
So Republicans simply stripped the non-fiscal portion off of the bill. The Senate then voted on it as a stand-alone measure, one that doesn’t spend money!
This is a huge victory not only for Wisconsin, but for all of America.
Robert Reich, who served as President Clinton’s Labor Secretary, admits Wisconsin will reverberate nationwide.
He says: “I wouldn’t be surprised if governors in New Jersey … and also in Indiana and other Midwestern states – where you have Republican governors, who believe they are in the ascendancy – take some courage from all of this.”
Liberals Enraged
No surprise, after disgracing the office they hold, the 14 AWOL senators now say they’ll return to Wisconsin from their Illinois hideout.
And they’re vowing to escalate the fight to a new level.
One of Obama’s allies is Michael Moore, a Hollywood-leftist filmmaker.
He’s calling for a nationwide “student walk-out” on Friday to protest Wisconsin, and is demanding jail time for Scott Walker.
A guest on MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow Show," an enraged Moore declared "The rich have committed these crimes and the people will demand your ass is in jail… we have a right to your money!"
Clearly, Michael Moore has gone nuts.
But the fact is this is a battle for the nation.
That’s why Obama’s public union allies are so desperate to strike-back with vengeance.
They’ll do whatever it takes to destroy Scott Walker, and to reverse our huge victory in Wisconsin.
They won’t stop. But neither will the League of American Voters. We’ve got Scott’s back.
Your donations and support to the League of American Voters helped Scott Walker and state legislators stay firm and win this battle.
But we need to continue in our efforts to not only support Scott Walker, but prepare for other state battles.
Please help us Donate Here Now.
Let me warn you, over the next 48 hours, it’s going to get ugly.
We expect a plague of Democrat lawsuits, more mob chaos, and well-funded recall campaigns against GOP senators.
Moveon.org, one of Obama’s far-left allies, is trying to raise $500,000 in twenty-four hours.
Their goal? “To make sure that these senators pay a heavy price… We can't let them get away with this.”
In fact, they’re already collecting signatures to recall these courageous senators who stood with Gov. Scott Walker.
That’s why it’s so urgent for the League to continue its highly-effective campaign to expose Obama’s bloated public unions.
And we need to take our campaign to other states too, like Ohio, Indiana, and New Jersey.
Whenever a bold governor like Scott Walker takes a stand for freedom, the League must be there to support him.
You and the League need to stay in the fight. Please Go Here Now
It’s time to capitalize on our big victory!
Sincerely,
Bob Adams
Executive Director
P.S. – Obama’s bloated public unions want to destroy Scott Walker, and reverse our huge victory. They’ll stop at nothing. But neither will the League of American Voters. We’ve got Scott’s back. In the next 48-hours it’s going to get ugly. We expect a plague of Democrat lawsuits, more mob rage, and Moveon.org funded recall campaigns against these courageous senators. But the League also needs to prepare for upcoming battles in key states. Help the League to stay in the fight. Go Here Now
